French space agency to use Apache Commons Mathematics library

The Apache Commons team has announced that the French space agency, the Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES), has selected Apache Commons Math as the basis of its next generation space Flight Dynamics Systems, known as project Sirius. According to a post on the Apache Commons mailing list by Luc Maisonobe, the new system will be used to "perform all computation related to spacecraft orbit and attitude control." This is said to include orbit determination, orbit propagation, manœuvres, trajectory optimisation and operational forecasts.
Apache Commons is a lightweight and self-contained library of mathematical and statistical components, which tries to fill the computational holes in the Java programming language and goes beyond the Apache Commons Lang project. The latest stable release is Apache Commons Math 2.2. Commons Math is released under version 2.0 of the Apache License.
