Một bài viết trên blog Port25 của Microsoft tuần trước đã hé lộ rằng hãng này đã thất bại trong việc đưa ra mã nguồn cho công cụ tải USB/DVD của cho Windows 7. Microsoft đã thừa nhận rằng công cụ này chứa các mã nguồn từ một ứng dụng được cấp phép GPL. A posting on Microsoft's Port 25 blog last week revealed that the company had failed to release the code of the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. Microsoft had admitted that the tool contained code from a GPL licensed application, ImageMaster, which was hosted on Microsoft's CodePlex project hosting site. Peter Galli, Microsoft's Open Source Community Manager, said "While we worked extremely hard to try and get the code ready for release by today, we still need to test and localise it". The plan is now to release the code "in the next few weeks".

In a curious twist, the original ImageMaster project on CodePlex has disappeared from public view. It was previously available at imagemaster.codeplex.com but according to a comment by Sara Ford, Program Manager at CodePlex, the project was "unpublished" at the project owners request. Ford added that the project could be republished at any time, although no reason or explanation was given as to why the ImageMaster project was "unpublished" in the first place.
